When grief enters the day

Ordinary moments can become hard very quickly

Grief does not always announce itself before it arrives.

A photograph, a song, a date on the calendar, a question from someone else, or a quiet moment before sleep can bring the loss right back into the foreground.

Your mind starts replaying what happened
Your body suddenly feels heavy, restless, or exhausted
A memory arrives when you are trying to concentrate
You feel more emotional than the situation seems to explain
Night arrives and your thoughts become louder

A different way to understand grief

Your reaction makes more sense when you know what grief affects

Grief is not limited to sadness.

It can affect attention, memory, sleep, energy, appetite, relationships, your sense of time, your body, and the future you thought you were moving toward.

Understanding that gives you more context for what is happening and more choices about what to try next.

Awareness creates more room for choice

Mindfulness helps you notice what is happening before an automatic reaction takes over the whole moment.

During the workshop

Understand grief and practice what may help

Understand

Why grief can feel unpredictable

Learn how grief can affect thoughts, emotions, the body, sleep, relationships, and concentration.

Notice

What is happening in the moment

Learn a simple way to notice thoughts, emotions, physical sensations, and reactions with more awareness.

Practice

Ways to respond to a hard moment

Try mindfulness and self-compassion practices you can return to when grief becomes more present.

Choose

What may be useful next

Leave with practical options rather than one prescribed way to handle grief.

Practical mindfulness

Practice before the next hard moment arrives

It is easier to remember a practice when you have already experienced it.

During the workshop, Heather will guide you through practices you can adapt for real life.

Pause and notice

Recognize what is happening in your thoughts, emotions, and body.

Work with the body

Use breath, movement, or physical awareness when grief is showing up physically.

Respond with compassion

Notice self-criticism, pressure, or judgment and try another way of responding.

Choose what fits

Decide which practice makes sense for the moment you are actually in.
