Living with grief is not just about the big moments
Grief does not only show up on anniversaries, holidays, or birthdays. It often weaves itself into everyday life.
You might notice it when you are trying to focus, when plans change, when a memory catches you off guard, or when a meaningful day is approaching and your body starts to brace before your mind can catch up.
This experience can feel confusing and exhausting, especially when you are doing your best to keep moving forward.
Living With Grief is a free online workshop created to help you understand what is happening and explore a steadier way of meeting these moments.
What this workshop offers
This workshop blends education and experience in a calm, supportive setting.
Together, we will explore:
Why grief shows up in ordinary moments, not just on special days
How anticipatory anxiety works in the body, especially around anniversaries, birthdays, and other meaningful dates
Why emotional waves do not mean you are going backward
How mindfulness can help you respond with more steadiness, without trying to fix or rush your grief
You will also be guided through a short mindfulness practice designed to support you when emotions rise or when your body feels on edge.
No prior mindfulness experience is needed.
What this workshop is and is not
This workshop is:
Educational and experiential
Calm, supportive, and structured
Grounded in mindfulness and lived experience
Designed to respect your nervous system and your pace
This workshop is not:
Group therapy
A place where you are expected to share or speak
Focused on moving on or letting go
A high pressure or emotionally intense event
You are welcome to listen quietly, take notes, or step away at any time.
Who this workshop is for
This workshop may be helpful if you:
- Notice grief showing up unexpectedly in daily life
- Feel anxiety building ahead of special days or transitions
- Want tools that feel supportive rather than overwhelming
- Are not looking to fix your grief, but want help living with it
- Prefer a non pressure learning environment
You are welcome whether your loss is recent or happened years ago.
Grief does not follow a timeline.
What you will take with you
After attending, many people leave with:
- A clearer understanding of why grief and anxiety show up the way they do
- A new way of relating to emotional waves without self judgment
- One practical mindfulness practice to use in daily life
- A sense of being less alone in their experience
There is nothing you need to master or complete. Take what is helpful and leave the rest.
An optional next step
At the end of the workshop, I will briefly share information about Awaken, my ongoing mindfulness based grief support community.
Awaken is a space where we practice these tools together week by week, with guidance and structure. There is no pressure to join. You are welcome to attend the workshop simply for the experience.
About Heather Stang
I am a grief counselor, thanatologist, and the creator of the Mindfulness & Grief System. For over twenty years, I have supported people navigating life after loss, both professionally and through my own lived experience.
My work has been recognized by the Association for Death Education and Counseling, where I received the Clinical Practice Award for my contributions to grief support.
What matters most to me is creating spaces where people feel steady, respected, and not pressured to be a certain way. My book, Living With Grief: Mindful Meditations and Self-Care Strategies for Navigating Loss reflects the same approach I bring to all of my work. Practical, compassionate, and paced to honor the nervous system.
