Grief Journaling Group: Guided Meditation & Reflective Writing

Wednesdays Online 4-5 PM ET
For Members of Awaken Grief Support

Grief can make you feel like you have to keep your emotions bottled up, like no one truly understands what you’re going through. You may be feeling disconnected—not only from others—but also from yourself.

Trying to navigate grief alone can feel overwhelming and exhausting, as if you’re carrying a weight too heavy to bear.

This meditation and grief journaling group is a safe space to set that weight down. Whether you’re new to meditation and journaling or have been practicing for years, you’ll find gentle guidance, thoughtful prompts, and the quiet support of a like-minded community that understands. Each week you will get to experience:

  • Guided Meditation: Begin with a grounding meditation designed to help you focus, breathe, and settle into the present moment. The meditation helps create a sense of spaciousness and calm, allowing emotions to arise naturally without judgment.
  • Journaling Practice: After the meditation, you’ll receive a thought-provoking journaling prompt. The prompt may encourage you to explore specific emotions, reflect on your journey, or express memories and thoughts that feel meaningful to you. You can also use this time for unstructured, freeform journaling if that feels more comfortable.
  • Optional Sharing: We’ll end with an opportunity to share (if you feel comfortable) or simply sit with your thoughts in quiet support of one another.

After your trial pay just $49/month. Cancel anytime. No commitment required.

How Guided Grief Journaling Prompts Help

Guided journaling prompts give you a simple and meaningful way to process your grief. Unlike free writing, these prompts provide structure, helping you focus your thoughts and explore your feelings in a safe and intentional way. Here’s how they can help you:

  1. Find Relief from Emotional Overload
Using journaling prompts can help ease feelings of being stuck in grief. Over time, it can reduce overwhelming emotions like sadness, stress, or even trauma-related symptoms by giving you a healthy way to express and process what you’re going through.
  2. Feel Better Physically
When you express your emotions and reflect through writing, it can actually have a positive impact on your physical health. Journaling helps lower stress levels, which can improve things like sleep, energy, and overall well-being.
  3. Make Sense of What’s Happened
Guided prompts can gently help you explore what this loss means to you. Whether you’re making sense of why it happened or noticing how it’s changed you, journaling can give you a new perspective and help you process your experience in a deeper way.
  4. Be Kinder to Yourself
Grief often comes with self-blame, judgment, or harsh thoughts. Journaling allows you to reflect on your emotions with compassion rather than criticism, helping you treat yourself with the same kindness you’d offer to a dear friend.
  5. Adjust and Move Through the Day-to-Day
Over time, journaling helps you adapt to your loss and rediscover your ability to move forward with purpose. By reflecting on your emotions and identifying moments of growth or connection, you create space for healing without rushing or ignoring your grief.

These prompts are here to guide you through your grief, one step at a time, offering clarity, comfort, and a space to connect with yourself in a way that feels meaningful.

Why Join The Awaken Grief Journaling Group?

I created this group as part of my Awaken Program because I know firsthand how helpful journaling can be when you're navigating grief. My own journaling journey started in 10th-grade English class. At the time, I didn’t realize that putting my thoughts on paper would help me process my grief over my uncle Doug’s suicide when I was just seven years old.

Looking back, I can see how much it helped me make sense of my emotions and find my way through that pain. I know it can help you, too.

As the author of the guided journal From Grief to Peace, I’ve worked with countless people like you who are navigating the heartbreak of loss. Journaling has always been one of the most powerful tools I’ve shared, and I’ve designed this group to give you the same opportunity—to explore your emotions, reflect on your experience, and move through grief with greater clarity and compassion.

  • Facilitated by a Trusted Expert: I’ll be there every step of the way to ensure you feel supported and safe as you explore your grief through journaling.
  • Accountability to Show Up for Yourself: It’s easy to push aside time for self-care, but this group creates space for you to prioritize your emotional well-being with a regular schedule and shared community experience.
  • A Supportive Community: Grief can feel isolating, but you’ll be surrounded by others who understand. While the focus is on personal reflection, you’ll feel the quiet strength of being part of a compassionate, like-minded group.
  • Strengthen Your Relationship with Yourself: Journaling allows you to reconnect with your thoughts and emotions, helping you discover meaning and wisdom in the process.
  • Build Comfort with Difficult Emotions: Instead of feeling overwhelmed by sadness, guilt, or anger, you’ll learn to sit with these feelings in a supportive way.
  • Develop Self-Compassion: Over time, this practice can help you approach yourself with kindness and patience, making room for thoughtful, wise action as you move forward.

This journaling group is also part of something bigger—a supportive community and program of live events, including Yoga for Grief and Mindfulness & Grief Support Groups, so you can create a grief support system that works best for you.
