How the Mindfulness & Grief System Helps You Navigate Loss
Some days, you may feel like you’re managing, while others leave you feeling completely unmoored. It’s hard to know what you need, let alone what will help. That’s why this support group—and the larger Mindfulness & Grief System—is designed to meet you exactly where you are, without forcing a timeline or destination.
Through gentle mindfulness practices, self-reflection, and compassionate support, you’ll have space to find steadiness, ease difficult emotions, and reconnect with yourself in a way that feels right for you.
When I first created the Mindfulness & Grief System, I wanted to offer something that was both gentle and practical. While studying thanatology—the field of death, dying, and bereavement—I had the privilege of working directly with grieving individuals. But some of my most valuable insights came years later.
Four years after completing my original 8-week grief program, I reconnected with past participants to see what had truly helped them in the long run. Their feedback, combined with my research, shaped this 8-step system—a flexible framework that can support you at your own pace, no matter where you are in your grief journey.
Each week in this Mindfulness & Grief Support Group, we explore themes that naturally align with these eight steps. Over time, you’ll experience practices that help you find steadiness, self-compassion, and even meaning in your grief.
If you prefer a more structured approach, you can explore the full online course included in Awaken, which walks you through all eight steps at your own pace. Some people love following a clear path, while others prefer to let insights unfold through practice. However you choose to learn, you are welcome here.
The 8-Steps of the Mindfulness & Grief System
- Conscious Relaxation – Use breath and body-based practices to release tension and find moments of peace.
- Mindful Awareness – Learn to stay present with your emotions instead of feeling overwhelmed by them.
- Compassion & Forgiveness – Cultivate kindness toward yourself as you navigate grief, letting go of self-judgment.
- Skillful Courage – Face difficult emotions with mindfulness, allowing yourself to process them safely.
- Getting Unstuck – Identify where grief may be holding you back and explore ways to gently move forward.
- Continuing Bonds – Find ways to maintain a meaningful connection with your loved one, even in their absence.
- Allowing Transformation – Embrace the changes that come with grief, discovering personal growth along the way.
- Perpetual Mindfulness – Integrate mindfulness into your daily life, so you can continue to find balance and meaning.

Why Join The Awaken Mindfulness & Grief Support Group?
Grief can feel isolating, especially when those around you may not fully understand what you're going through. Some friends and family members are grieving too, while others, despite their best intentions, may not know how to offer the support you need. This can leave you feeling alone in your pain, wondering if anyone truly gets it.
But you don’t have to navigate this journey alone.
This Mindfulness & Grief Support Group provides a safe, compassionate space where you can be seen, heard, and understood—without pressure or expectation. Whether you choose to share or simply listen, being in a group of people who “get it” can bring a sense of connection and relief that’s hard to find elsewhere.
Here’s why this group can make a difference:
- Guided Support & Practical Tools – Each week, we explore a theme grounded in mindfulness, self-compassion, and evidence-based grief practices, helping you process your emotions in a way that feels natural and supportive.
- A Community That Understands – Unlike conversations where you feel the need to hold back, here you can express yourself freely, knowing you’ll be met with empathy and understanding.
- A Space to Reflect & Grow – Through mindfulness, journaling, and discussion, you’ll gain insights into your grief journey and discover ways to navigate it with more ease and self-compassion.
- Flexibility to Participate in Your Own Way – Some weeks, you may feel like sharing. Other times, you might prefer to listen and absorb the practice. There’s no right or wrong way to show up—only what feels right for you.
If you’ve been struggling with grief alone, this group can be a lifeline of support and connection. Whether you’re seeking a structured way to engage with your grief or simply need a space where you can breathe and be yourself, you are welcome here.
This grief support group is also part of something bigger—a supportive community and program of live events, including Yoga for Grief and the Grief Journaling Group, so you can create a grief support system that works best for you.
